Regulatory News:

The city of Montería, Colombia, has just renewed its trust in Veolia (Paris:VIE) by signing a contract with its subsidiary Proactiva Aguas de Monteria for the management of all the city’s water services. This contract, renewed for ten years from 2019, concerns a population of 540,000 and represents cumulative revenue of EUR 226 million.

Under this contract, the company will be responsible for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant to cover the needs of 100,000 residents. Veolia  will also extend the wastewater network in order to connect 100% of the population within two years, compared with the current 82%. Improving access to drinking water in the municipality of Montería will also necessitate the deployment of water pressure regulator stations and the operation of water distribution systems in rural areas.

The early renewal of this contract is confirmation of Veolia’s expertise and technical added value, and the Company’s ability to provide solutions to its customers’ needs. For the past 15 years, Veolia has been managing Montería’s drinking water distribution and wastewater services. Through its subsidiary in Monteria, Veolia has:

  • extended the drinking water distribution network’s coverage from 58% to 100% of the city
  • rolled out the wastewater network to which 82% of the population is currently connected
  • increased access to drinking water to 24/24 from 6/24 prior to the start of the contract
  • reduced technical and commercial losses from 70% to 25%.

Veolia has also helped Montería calculate its carbon footprint, enabling the city to draw up its “Montería Green City 2019” climate change master plan. Finally, the Veolia subsidiary in Montería supplies drinking water to more than 10,000 people living on the outskirts of the municipality under the “Piletas Públicas” social program.
