Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) said Wednesday that it increased its stake in its Chilean subsidiary Enel Americas as part of a wider bid to reduce minority interests in the company's South American subsidiaries.

The Rome-based energy company raised its shareholding in Enel Americas to 56.42% from 51.8%, it said. Enel said it paid a total of roughly 412 million euros ($464 million) for the increased stake.

The move is in line with the Enel Group's 2019-21 strategic plan, which is focused on the reduction of minorities in its subsidiaries operating in South America, Enel said.
