Air Liquide SA's (AI.FR) first-quarter revenue rose thanks to a positive performance that beat market expectations.

Revenue for the period rose 8.6% on year to 5.44 billion euros ($6.06 billion), the company said Friday.

Analysts had forecast the company's first-quarter revenue at EUR5.39 billion.

The growth reflects "the good performance of all of the Group's activities as well as the positive trend in exchange rates," Chief Executive Benoit Potier said.

The company confirmed its guidance of achieving profit growth in 2019.
