Airbus SE said Wednesday that it has resumed the modernization work on a final assembly line of its A320 family jets in Toulouse, France.

The new assembly line should be operational by the end of 2022 and will have the capacity to build A321 aircraft, the European plane maker said.

"Initial plans to introduce A321 production capabilities in Toulouse were put on hold at the outset of the Covid-19 crisis, following the decision to reduce commercial aircraft production by around 40%," Airbus said.

Airbus decided to resume its work to support the market recovery that is in sight, it said.
