Broadcom Inc.(AVGO) said Wednesday it has learned about a fraudulent memo circulating among legislative leaders in Washington about a possible need to review the company's proposed acquisition of CA Technologies (CA) on national security grounds.

In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Broadcom said the memo, supposedly signed by the Defense Department, referenced the Committee of Foreign Investment in the U.S., or CFIUS, looking into the transaction.

"We have been informed by DoD officials that this memo is in fact a forged document," the company said, adding that the deal is on track to close in the fourth quarter.
