Carlyle Group LP (CG) and Schneider Electric SE (SU.FR) will expand their infrastructure-development partnership, the companies said Friday.

The partnership builds on the companies' existing strategic alliance to deploy microgrids in big infrastructure projects.

As part of the partnership Schneider and Carlyle plan to launch a joint venture named AlphaStruxure to design and engineer distributed energy and microgrid networks.

By combining Carlyle's investment capital and Schneider's engineering expertise the companies hope to overcome the funding constraints that have prevented more investment flowing into upgrading critical infrastructure.
