Carrefour SA (CA.FR) said Monday that it will start operating in Uzbekistan in 2020 thanks to its partnership with Emirati holding company Majid Al Futtaim Group.

The French retailer said that it should open seven stores in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, over the next two years.

"Carrefour's arrival in Uzbekistan will create 2500 direct and indirect jobs and will benefit more than 600 local suppliers, producers and farmers," the company said.
