--France is not contemplating the breakup of state-controlled EDF, said Martin Vial, who heads asset-management agency Agence des Participations de l'Etat, in an interview with BFM Business on Thursday afternoon.

--The split of the utility into nuclear and renewable activities is not on the agenda, Mr. Vial told BFM, after speculation lifted EDF's share price on Thursday.

--EDF is 83.50%-owned by the French state and focuses mainly on nuclear energy.
