Electricite de France SA said Monday that a consortium formed by its subsidiary EDF Renewables and China's Jinko Power Technology Co. has won a solar project in Abu Dhabi.

The French energy company said the solar plant will have a capacity of 2 gigawatts and generate the equivalent electricity to power 160,000 local households a year. It will be located in the region of Al Dhafra.

Construction works are expected to start by the end of the year, according to EDF, and the commissioning is planned for 2022.

The project is part of a public-private partnership, according to the company. EDF Renewables and Jinko Power will hold 20% each, while the remaining 60% will be owned by Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. PJSC and Masdar.

The call for tender was launched last year by the Emirates Water and Electricity Co., with which partners have signed a 30-year power purchase agreement, EDF said.
