Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) said Friday that it has appointed Laurent Thieffry, who was director of its Flamanville 3 nuclear power-plant project, as director of the industrial division within the engineering and new nuclear projects division.

On Wednesday, the French energy company raised the estimated costs associated with the Flamanville project by 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion) after the country's nuclear watchdog ordered repairs to eight faulty weldings, bringing the total construction costs to EUR12.4 billion.

Alain Morvan will replace Mr. Thieffry as director of the Flamanville nuclear power plant project, the company said.

The appointments will become effective on Jan.1.
