--Dutch lender ING is interested in buying Germany's Commerzbank, German business publication Manager Magazin reports, citing unnamed sources.

--According to the magazine, ING CEO Ralph Hamers approached the German bank's Chief Executive Martin Zielke, as well as the German government, seeking to start talks about a potential acquisition.

--Mr. Zielke refused to start formal negotiations; however, but didn't completely break off contact, according to the report.

--Commerzbank shares closed 3.1% higher.
