Sanofi SA (SAN.FR) said Friday that Paul Hudson has been appointed as new Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective September 1.

Mr. Hudson will succeed Olivier Brandicourt who has decided to retire, the French drug maker said.

Mr. Hudson was previously the head of Novartis, Sanofi said.

Novartis has announced today that it has named Marie-France Tschudin as president of the company's pharmaceuticals unit.
