Telecom Italia SpA's (TIT.MI) Chairman Fulvio Conti said Thursday that he is considering stepping down, citing a better atmosphere on the board and among shareholders.

"In light of the renewed climate of trust and collaboration within the board and between the shareholders," which Mr. Conti said he considers to be a result of shared work and his personal commitment, "I am evaluating to step down from my role," he said.

Mr. Conti was elected to the board last year after being put forward by activist investor Elliott Management Corp.

At the time, Elliott was battling Vivendi SA (VIV.FR) for influence over the Italian company. Both Vivendi and Elliott have large stakes in Telecom Italia.
