Danone S.A. will maintain its local production of essential dairy and infant nutrition products in Russia, according to an internal memo seen by The Wall Street Journal.

The French food company said it has ceased non-essential imports and exports to the country, such as for its Evian and Alpro brands, as well as all investments including advertising and consumer promotions.

It also said it is not taking any cash, dividends or profits out of its business in Russia. Any profits made locally will be directed to humanitarian aid in Ukraine or to support Ukrainian refugees.

The decision to maintain some activities in Russia was taken to support citizens who rely on its products as well as to safeguard its assets in the country, according to the memo.
