Sanofi SA's India division is implementing voluntary retirements for employees at two of its sites in the country, a spokesperson for Sanofi India said.

The voluntary retirement scheme comes on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic where new pharmaceutical manufacturers have established themselves, increasing the overall supply capacity for vaccines and medicines, the spokesperson said.

The French pharmaceutical company remains committed to its presence in India, it said.

Earlier, press reports said the company was planning to let go of all its employees at two plants in India, affecting 800 workers out of the 5000 that Sanofi employs in the country.
