BlueRock Diamonds PLC said Monday operations at the Kareevlei diamond mine in South Africa were suspended after the South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy identified contraventions.

The London-listed diamond producer didn't disclosed further information regarding the contraventions, but said most of them are related with the processing plant.

The site is expected to be operational by Jan. 27, after the completion of corrective actions to be finalized by Jan. 24. The activities will remain suspended until the contraventions are rectified.

"It is emphasized that the contraventions which were identified do not place employees or other workers on the site at risk, and management is of the opinion that the instruction to suspend operations is not appropriate given the nature of the findings," it added.

The company said it has sufficient ore on the stockpile to ensure that there is no disruption to operations once the plant is restarted.
