The European Commission on Tuesday said it approved a proposed acquisition of Photomath Inc. by Alphabet Inc.-owned Google, concluding the deal wouldn't raise anti-competitive practices.

The European Commission said its investigation found that Photomath's sale to Google wouldn't significantly reduce competition in the markets for educational technologies that include math as a subject offering as well as general search services.

Photomath, which is based in San Mateo, Calif., runs an online homework and study-help app that uses a smartphone's camera to scan and solve math problems.
