0816 GMT -- Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the most mentioned entity in the news over the past 12 hours, according to Factiva data, after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stopped in Taiwan for a visit. The visit, which Chinese President Xi Jinping last week tried to head off in a phone call with his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, prompted Beijing to conduct live-fire exercises around Taiwan. It is unclear how businesses will be affected, but in one example, people familiar with the matter said that Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. is delaying plans to announce the building of an EV-battery plant in North America, citing potential public criticism amid U.S.-China tensions. The Chinese company is a major supplier of batteries to Tesla. CATL declined to comment, and the people familiar with the matter said there was no pressure from Beijing to postpone or cancel its plans. Dow Jones & Co. owns Factiva.
