The Federal Trade Commission said it has opened a claims process
for eligible former AT&T Inc. customers who haven't claimed a
refund related to the company's 2019 settlement with the FTC to
resolve allegations of misleading consumers about certain data
plans.
In 2019, AT&T agreed to pay $60 million to settle the FTC's
allegations that the wireless provider reduced customers' data
speeds while charging them for unlimited data plans.
The money was deposited into a fund that the company used to
provide partial refunds to current and former customers who were
affected.
However, the company hasn't been able to reach everyone who was
eligible for a refund, the FTC said Thursday. The FTC said $7
million remains in the fund and the agency will use that money to
provide partial refunds to eligible consumers, who can submit
claims on the FTC's website.
