First Recovery Attributed to Free-Standing Insert Coupon Book
LIVONIA, Mich., July 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Valassis
(NYSE:VCI), one of the nation's leading media and marketing
services companies, announced today that the 149th missing child
has been recovered as a result of its America's Looking For Its
Missing Children program, featured on its RedPlum media portfolio.
This is the first recovery directly attributed to a missing child
featured in the RedPlum free-standing insert (FSI) since the
program's expansion to the FSI coupon booklet. The 14-year-old
girl, who had been missing for seven years, was safely recovered as
a result of a call authorities received from someone who had seen
the "Have You Seen Me? " portion of the coupon booklet that arrived
with her newspaper. The child was recovered from a different state
from which she had been reported missing. Photographs are the No. 1
tool for law enforcement to recover a missing child, and photos
provide much needed hope for searching families. "Many of America's
missing children come home because of unsung heroes, average people
who look at the pictures and provide that key lead or piece of
information that leads to a child's recovery," said Ernie Allen,
National Center for Missing & Exploited President and CEO. "We
are deeply grateful to longtime partner, Valassis, which enables us
to reach into millions of homes each week with photos of missing
children, and ask for the public's help in bringing them home." "We
continue to embrace this national public service program as part of
our daily business and acknowledge the help of people who in their
daily activities take the time to look at the faces of missing
children while seeking out coupons and deals, and ultimately, make
a difference in the life of that child," said Vince Giuliano,
Valassis Senior Vice President, Government Relations. "A recovery
reinforces why we are so deeply committed to this important cause.
This recovery brings hope to searching families across the country
and validates the power of images to help find missing children."
The "Have You Seen Me? " program is featured on the RedPlum Direct
Mail Package and FSI and on redplum.com. Each week Valassis
distributes pictures and information of missing children to more
than 100 million households. The program, in conjunction with the
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and
the U.S. Postal Service, has helped in the recovery of missing
children for nearly 25 years. The company works closely with NCMEC
and law enforcement to regionalize the search in specific
geographic areas where they have leads and a higher potential of
recovery. The program was inspired by the emotional September 1984
television movie, "Adam" about the abduction and murder of Adam
Walsh. About Valassis Valassis is one of the nation's leading media
