Swedish hygiene and paper products manufacturer SCA AB (SCA-B.SK) Wednesday said markets have developed largely in line with its expectations in the first quarter.

"The hygiene market is developing well, while the newsprint market is tougher, which we had expected," Chief Executive Jan Johansson said at a press briefing to present the company's new sustainability targets.

Johansson also said the processes to gain regulatory approval for its acquisition of Georgia-Pacific's European tissue operations and the divestment of packaging operations to U.K.-based DS Smith PLC (SMDS.LN) are proceeding according to plans. The company expects to get approval before summer, Johansson said.

In the case of the Georgia-Pacific acquisition, authorities may ask for smaller corrections to grant approval, Johansson said, but added that the company's view is that it shouldn't be necessary.
