PR Newswire (US)
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Chrysler
300 and Dodge Charger will offer BorgWarner's new InterActive
Torque Management(R) Transfer Case (ITM(R) tc) all-wheel-drive
(AWD) technology as optional equipment for the 2009 model year.
ITM(R) tc offers enhanced response and controllability with reduced
noise, vibration and harness (NVH) in a compact, efficient design.
According to recent Chrysler LLC statements, the system is the
first active "on-demand" transfer case to be coupled with an
"on-demand" front-axle disconnect feature, providing
all-wheel-drive vehicles with improved fuel economy comparable to
that of two-wheel-drive systems. (Photo:

tc implements BorgWarner's advanced software, designed to work in
cooperation with other vehicle systems, and enables the integration
of the all-new front-axle disconnect logic. The disconnect logic
allows the system to seamlessly switch between rear-wheel drive and
all-wheel drive automatically, based on an innovative control
strategy. "We are proud of our collaborative efforts with Chrysler
LLC to launch this new all-wheel-drive system that helps improve
fuel economy," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO.
"As a global leader in all-wheel-drive technology, we are pleased
to provide the next generation of Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger
drivers with the enhanced vehicle performance, safety and fuel
economy that they are seeking in their all-wheel-drive vehicles."
The 2009 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger all-wheel-drive models
employ the latest generation of interactive transfer case
technology available as part of BorgWarner's Torque-on-Demand(R)
product portfolio. BorgWarner's portfolio consists of a full line
of active torque management devices focused on the needs of the
expanding all-wheel-drive market. In addition to providing transfer
case hardware, BorgWarner also supplies the software controls for
vehicle level integration. These capabilities are core competencies
of BorgWarner and provide automakers like Chrysler LLC with
outstanding vehicle performance by optimizing all-wheel-drive
system hardware and software controls. Auburn Hills, Michigan-based
