AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner's (NYSE: BWA) regulated two-stage (R2S®) turbochargers and Hybrid Tube exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers help reduce emissions and improve fuel economy for on-highway commercial diesel trucks and buses. Launched with a major North American commercial truck maker earlier this year, the combination of technologies enables truck makers to meet 2010 EPA emissions regulations, which require an 83 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

"BorgWarner's leading turbocharging and EGR technologies help these engines reduce NOx where it starts—in the combustion chamber—while improving performance and fuel economy," said Roger Wood, Executive Vice President, BorgWarner. "With the acquisition of ENSA, BorgWarner has added EGR coolers to our broad portfolio of technologies. It is yet another tool BorgWarner engineers can use when working with our customers to develop optimized air management systems."

BorgWarner's award-winning, patented R2S® turbocharging technology employs two series-connected turbochargers to reach high pressure ratios with excellent overall system efficiency and fast response to changing engine loads, such as accelerating or climbing steep grades.

BorgWarner's high efficiency turbocharging technology also improves exhaust flow, resulting in improved fuel economy. In addition to enjoying more miles per gallon, commercial vehicle drivers will appreciate the engine's quick response, especially at low engine speeds and under heavy loads.

Combining the best attributes of tube-and-shell coolers with plate-and-insert heat exchangers, BorgWarner's Hybrid Tube EGR cooler provides superior heat rejection with less soot and hydrocarbon buildup. With limited space under the hood, Hybrid Tube EGR coolers also offer compact packaging options, giving engine manufacturers greater flexibility to meet their engine management strategies.
