BorgWarner Supplies DualTronic(TM)-Based Clutch Module to Ford SRV
Concept Car AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
BorgWarner supplied the modular hybrid transmission clutch module
in the Ford Scientific Research Vehicle (SRV2005) on display at the
2005 North American International Auto Show. The Ford SRV2005
project showcases a six-speed automatic hybrid transmission in
combination with a 2.7L diesel engine in a drivable Ford Freestyle
demonstration vehicle. The vehicle will be used to further develop
hybrid technologies for potential production applications.
"BorgWarner was delighted to collaborate with Ford in the
development of this exciting vehicle, and proud to introduce a
high-potential technology solution for the hybrid powertrains of
the future," said Mark Perlick, President and General Manager,
BorgWarner Transmission Systems. The clutch module is based on the
cost-effective and fuel-efficient application of BorgWarner
DualTronic(TM) clutch technology. As with the DualTronic(TM)
system, the compact clutch module for the SRV offers high
efficiency through low parasitic losses, high mechanical efficiency
and low rotating inertia. Additional benefits include elimination
of the torque converter or other coupling device; reduced noise,
vibration and harshness (NVH) through the use of BorgWarner's
advanced friction materials; and low maintenance costs, since
hydraulic clutches require no adjustment or replacement over the
life of the vehicle. The module enables a practical and efficient
solution for the challenges of hybrid powertrains for new six-speed
planetary transmissions, electric machines and internal combustion
engines. BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE:BWA) is a product leader in highly
engineered components and systems for vehicle powertrain
applications worldwide. The company operates manufacturing and
technical facilities in 58 locations in 17 countries. Customers
