MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 28, 2019 /CNW/ - UPS (NYSE:UPS) today
announced that Dominic Porporino has been appointed president of
UPS Canada. Porporino, a Montreal
native and UPS's second Canadian–born president, returns to
Canada from Brussels where he was working as vice
president of operations in UPS's European headquarters. UPS
Canada celebrates its
44th anniversary today and Porporino serves as the ninth
president for UPS Canada.
"UPS Canada is well positioned
for continued growth," says Porporino. "I'm excited to work with
our dedicated employees as we invest further in our network and
infrastructure, and continue to provide excellent service to our
customers, not only across the country, but across the
world."
UPS has been investing to expand its fleet and operations across
Canada. In 2018, UPS invested
$500M in Canadian operations, which
has been used toward facility expansions and technological
advancements. A major facility expansion in Montreal and a new facility in Caledon will help meet growing business and
residential customer demand. As part of the investment and UPS'
commitment to sustainability, compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles
were added to Canada's alternative
energy fleet.
Porporino began his career with UPS in 1989 as a preloader,
before becoming a driver. Like many at UPS, over the course of 28
years, he progressed through the ranks, holding various positions
in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto, including: on-road supervisor,
preload manager, gateway manager, international hub manager, centre
manager, and director of operations.
In 2011, Porporino accepted a special assignment coordinating
the company's Atlantic Canada
expansion project and in 2013, he served as the vice-president of
operations at UPS Canada. Porporino was then promoted in
April 2017 to his operations role in
Europe, relocating to Brussels, Belgium.
