Plant-Based Ingredient Provides Exceptional Benefits in SPF Products QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Botaneco Corp. ("Botaneco" or the "Corporation") , announces the successful development of daily wear moisturizer and chemical exfoliant prototypes. The prototypes combine the Corporation's plant-based, Hydresia® oleosome emulsification technology with its previously announced SPF enhancement ability. When tested at an independent laboratory, both formulations provide Sunscreen Protection Factor (SPF) 30+ protection against UV light responsible for sunburns (UVB) and UV light responsible for skin cancer and premature aging (UVA). Most importantly, tests indicate that utilizing this technology allows for significantly less UV absorbing chemicals to be used in comparison to the majority of other daily wear SPF products which use traditional petrochemical based emulsifiers. "With the safety of long-term exposure to UV absorbing chemicals becoming more of an issue, minimizing their use is obviously important in sunscreens.  However, we believe that the true value of this technology is in the multibillion dollar daily wear cosmetic market, where SPF claims are increasingly important," stated Dr. Jack Guth, VP Research & Development at Botaneco.  "We are ecstatic that Hydresia® demonstrated broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection for daily wear products while using a modest 2.5% of UV absorbing chemicals compared to the 15% to 18% that is typically used to achieve equivalent sun protection." Dr. Guth added, "These test results could lead to a fundamental change in the way SPF daily wear products are manufactured. Hydresia®, a natural plant based ingredient, could not only replace synthetic emulsifiers, but also reduce the amount of potentially harmful UV chemicals required to meet the FDA's requirement for broad spectrum UV sun protection." Botaneco is currently working with a number of cosmetic marketers to incorporate Hydresia® into their lines of daily wear products that require UVA and UVB protection from the sun.
