Measurement Specialties Announces Agreement with Mykrolis to Supply Pressure Transducers FAIRFIELD, N.J., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Measurement Specialties, Inc. (AMEX:MSS) and Mykrolis Corporation (NYSE: MYK; Billerica, MA) have announced a sourcing agreement in which Measurement Specialties will manufacture the Mykrolis SolidSense(R) II pressure transducers which are used in high-purity semiconductor manufacturing. According to Tom Scarborough, Product Manager at Mykrolis, the combination of Mykrolis' proprietary high-purity absolute pressure design and the MSS Microfused(TM) sensor technology will provide Mykrolis's customers with superior performance and value. "The improved long-term stability of the transducer reduces the need for adjustments and preventative maintenance, eliminating downtime for our customers," said Scarborough. "This has been an ideal relationship for MSS from the very start," noted Glen MacGibbon, Director of Global Sales and Marketing. "By working with an established leader in the semiconductor industry, we have been able to address the needs of a new market by exploiting one of our core sensing technologies. From a manufacturing perspective, the product is synergistic with existing production lines and offers significant opportunity in the future. This is a good example of a partnership yielding a win-win for supplier and customer." Mykrolis and MSS are evaluating other opportunities where their technologies are synergistic and may yield future benefits. Mykrolis develops and manufactures liquid and gas delivery systems, components and consumables used to precisely measure, deliver, control and purify the liquids and gases used in the semiconductor manufacturing process. In addition, the company's products are used to manufacture a range of other products, such as flat panel displays, high purity chemicals, photoresists, solar cells, gas lasers, optical and magnetic storage devices and fiber optic cables. Measurement Specialties, Inc. designs and manufactures sensors and sensor-based consumer products. The Sensor division, also known as MSI Sensors, produces a wide variety of sensors and transducers to measure precise ranges of physical characteristics such as pressure, motion, force, displacement, tilt, flow and humidity. MSI Sensors uses multiple advanced technologies -- including piezoresistive, electro-optic, electro-magnetic, capacitive, application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), piezoelectric polymers and strain gauges -- to engineer sensors that operate precisely and cost effectively.
