London, United Kingdom (19 May 2003) - AMEC plc (LSE:AMEC), the international
engineering services company, has completed its strategic review of the future
ownership of SPIE Batignolles, the regional French construction business
acquired with the acquisition of SPIE S.A. in early March 2003.

AMEC has now received an offer from SPIE Batignolles' executive management, in
association with investors, to acquire 51 per cent of the company's capital and
has entered into a period of exclusive negotiation until 31 July 2003 to
consider the terms of a potential sale and to undertake appropriate consultation
with employees.

It is envisaged that AMEC will remain a minority shareholder in SPIE Batignolles
for an agreed period in order to provide ongoing stability.
