United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) Monday said it will hire about 100,000 seasonal employees for the upcoming holiday shipping season, about the same number of extra workers as it hired last year.

The Atlanta package-delivery giant said the full- and part-time workers will support the anticipated annual surge in package volume that will begin in November and continue through January.

UPS said it expects another record peak season this year, with daily deliveries nearly doubling its average of 20 million packages a day.

UPS said 35% of those it hired for seasonal package-handler jobs over the last three years went on to land permanent positions with the company.
