Waters MS Systems Handle the Most Complex Applications While Adding
Simplicity Throughout the Analytical Workflow MILFORD, Mass., Aug.
27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) today
exhibited for the first time in Europe the Waters SYNAPT(TM) G2 a
system offering scientists greater power, versatility and speed at
the 18th International Mass Spectrometry Conference (IMSC).
Rounding out its display of mass spectrometry (MS) and
UltraPerformance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC )/MS systems at IMSC
will be Waters Xevo(TM) family of tandem quadrupole and
time-of-flight mass spectrometers noted for their ease-of-use and
versatility. "Advancements in mass spectrometry are expanding the
boundaries of scientific research," said Brian Smith, Vice
President of Mass Spectrometry Business Operations for Waters
Division. "Research-grade MS instruments are providing the power
and sensitivity researchers need to better understand diseases and
devise new therapeutics. At the same time, MS instruments are being
used by more scientists than ever for more routine but equally
important analyses, such as for pharmaceutical QC and food safety
applications. Regardless of the complexity of the application,
Waters MS systems provide robust, accurate, high-quality
information quickly and easily, so scientists can focus on
analytical results, not on the process of obtaining them." SYNAPT
G2 System Offers Scientists Greater Power, Versatility and Speed
Demanding Applications The SYNAPT G2 System is capable of
outstanding qualitative and quantitative MS and High Definition
MS(TM) (HDMS(TM)) performance. For scientists this means
performance in excess of 40,000 FWHM resolution, high sensitivity,
a data acquisition rate of 20 spectra/second, exact mass (1 ppm
RMS) information and a dynamic range of up to five orders of
magnitude. When paired with Waters ACQUITY UPLC technology, Waters
SYNAPT G2 Mass Spectrometer makes maximum use of the power and
speed of UPLC. SYNAPT G2 system offers scientists: -- the highest,
most comprehensive UPLC MS and UPLC MS/MS performance of any
available system -- proven ion mobility technology to enhance
sample specificity and definition to enable discoveries that are
simply unachievable by conventional mass spectrometers -- maximum
system usability through its implementation of 'Engineered
Simplicity' -- complete system solutions backed by highly-skilled
support scientists to ensure customer success -- an extensive range
of interface capabilities to service the broadest range of
applications CICbioGune together with OWL Genomics, Derrio, Spain,
is currently pioneering innovative technologies in the areas of
diagnosis and treatment for hepatic diseases. It purchased a Synapt
G2 HDMS System for performing metabolomic studies. "Working in a
challenging metabolic profiling environment, of key importance is a
mass spectrometry-based system solution that maximizes productivity
and yet provides the highest quality information. For us, SYNAPT G2
leads the way in terms of UPLC-compatible scan speeds, mass
accuracy and spectral resolution. In addition to its class-leading
UPLC/MS/MS performance, the extra dimension of separation provided
by its enhanced ion mobility capability allows us to extract more
information from our samples than has previously been possible with
conventional MS systems. For this reason, the SYNAPT G2 was the
only choice for OWL Genomics," said Jonathan Barr, Ph.D.,
Metabolomics Department Manager. Xevo Family of Mass Spectrometers
- Making a Difference from Life Science Research to Wildlife
Protection Waters Xevo family of mass spectrometers - the Xevo
QTof, a quadrupole time-of-flight (QTof) mass spectrometer (MS) and
Xevo TQ MS, a tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer - feature unique,
patented technologies that are driving novel analytical
methodologies. Xevo customers are reporting they are experiencing a
sustained improvement in the consistency of sample results from
operator to operator and lab to lab. They attribute this phenomenon
to Waters' design philosophy of Engineered Simplicity(TM) built
into the family of Xevo MS systems. Engineered Simplicity describes
the ability of Waters MS instruments to provide pertinent
information to scientists and convert data into critical business
and organizational knowledge faster and with greater assurance.
Waters Xevo(TM) TQ System recently attained top honors in the IBO
2009 Industrial Design Award competition sponsored by Instrument
Business Outlook, an industry newsletter published by Strategic
Directions International, Los Angles, CA. The Gold Award earned by
the Xevo TQ System in the Analytical Instrument category recognizes
excellence in industrial design and aesthetics, functionality, and
features that "improve a product's performance and end-user's
experience." The Xevo TQ and Xevo QTof mass spectrometers share the
same usability features. "I've been amazed by how quickly my
students have been able to generate high quality data with the Xevo
QTof," says Prof. Joseph Loo, Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry,
University of California - Los Angeles. "Seeing them use the system
to generate accurate, reproducible lists of proteins with minimal
sample preparation and with little prior experience with the
instrument is truly impressive and exciting to me. The data that
the instrument and my students have generated has already had a
positive impact on several of our research projects." SASA, a
government laboratory in Edinburgh, Scotland is using a Waters Xevo
QTof to do everything from safeguarding the food supply to
protecting animals - domesticated or wild. Says Michael Taylor,
Ph.D., Head of the Chemistry Dept., "Whether we're monitoring the
pesticide load in our diet or investigating the accidental or
illegal poisoning of animals, the Waters Xevo QTof, when coupled
with UPLC, has significantly improved our ability to rapidly
identify, quantify, confirm and report the presence of multiple
pesticide residues, enabling us to better protect our food supply
and the environment in which we live." Waters Oral Presentations,
Posters, Luncheon Seminars and Much More . . .. This year's IMSC is
also the site of full scientific program sponsored by Waters
beginning with an all-day users meeting on Sunday, August 30; daily
luncheon seminars on ion mobility mass spectrometry, food testing,
drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and proteomics; three oral
presentations, and 18 poster sessions. Waters is also offering
scientists one-on-one demonstrations of its latest enhancements to
its MassLynx(TM) mass spectrometry software. About Waters
