BMW Hosting Blockchain Vehicle
Competition
The Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI) is
beginning a new type of event to push the boundaries of blockchain
technology and motor vehicle transportation. They now organize a
series of tournament style competitions to explore how vehicles
will communicate, cooperate, make instant autonomous transactions
and integrate into the smart cities of the future. The MOBI Grand
Challenge will take place over a four month span. BMW will host the
final event with demonstrations of the winning technology
applications in February of next year in Munich, Germany. Monetary
prizes will be given out as blockchain tokens. Ocean Protocol has
committed $1 million worth of token prize, and Beyond Protocol
committed $250,000.
Unlike a hackathon, these competitions will place
robotic autonomous vehicles in competition with each
other.
Blockchain Tech Will Help Border
Patrol
Customs and Border Protection division of the
United States government will be developing a plan to implement
blockchain technology by the end of the year. In the most recent
Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee meeting, "emerging
technologies" were a hot topic. Customs and Border Protection has
already concluded testing rounds within their supply chain
management process., according to a press release published
Tuesday. The decentralize style networks are useful for exchanges
across borders. In this case, tracking shipments made through NAFTA
would be streamlined. "We've produced a hybrid system that allows
public sharing of data and also maintains the security of that
data. It's particularly important for keeping trade secrets and
that's what this architecture is designed to do." - Vincent
