Johannesburg, 1 November 2000. Northam Platinum Limited is pleased to announce
the appointment of Tokyo Sexwale as chairman of the company. His appointment
follows the retirement of Alan Wright as chairman.

The board paid tribute to Alan Wright, chairman of the company for many years
and a director of the company since its inception, for his commitment and
dedication during some difficult years in the past.

Eric Ford, Eric Molobi, Roeland van Kerckhoven and Mark Willcox have been
appointed to the board, with Eric Ngubane appointed as alternate director.

The remainder of the board remains unchanged with Ian Watson the managing
director, and Michael Beckett, Barry Davison, Simon Malone and Bernard van
Rooyen as non-executive directors.

TOKYO SEXWALE Cert Bus Studies (Univ Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland)

Mr Sexwale is chairman of Mvelaphanda Holdings Limited. He serves on the
boards of a number of other South African companies and is a director of De
Montfort University in the United Kingdom.

Prior to his entree into the business world, Mr Sexwale served as a political
prisoner for 13 years on Robben Island. Following his release he held various
senior positions within the structures of the ANC before being elected premier
of Gauteng Province, a position he held from 1994 to 1998.

Mr Sexwale has been chancellor of the Vaal Triangle Technikon since 1996, is
the Honorary Consul General of Finland, and is a trustee of the Business
Trust. He also serves as patron of various non-governmental organisations
(NGOs).

ERIC FORD MSc Man. Science (Imperial College, London), BSc Min Eng cum laude
(Wits)

Eric Ford is Executive Director: Operations, of Anglo American Platinum
Corporation (Anglo Platinum). Mr Ford occupied various management and
consulting positions in Anglo Coal from June 1971 until 1997. In 1998 he was
appointed CEO of Anglo American's joint venture coal mining operation in
Colombia, a position he held until the end of 1999.

ERIC MOLOBI BA, (Unisa)

Eric Molobi is the Executive Chairman of Kasigo Trust Investment Company
(Proprietary) Limited. He also serves on the boards of a number of companies
including Nedcor Investment Bank Holdings Limited, Remgro, and Telkom.

Mr Molobi obtained his degree while serving as a political prisoner on Robben
Island. Following his release, he worked for Munich Re Insurance Company of
South Africa and then with the South African Council of Churches. In 1990 he
joined the Kasigo Charitable Trust (Kasigo Trust) as Chief Executive Officer
where he was responsible for raising funds for educational and community
development projects in South Africa. In 1994, he was awarded the prestigious
Ordre National de la Legion D'Honneur by the French Government. 

ROELAND VAN KERCKHOVEN B Com, MBL (Unisa)

Roeland van Kerckhoven is Executive Director: Finance of Anglo American
Platinum Corporation (Anglo Platinum), a position he has held since 1994. Mr
van Kerckhoven joined Johannesburg Consolidated Investments (JCI) in 1977 and
occupied various financial positions in the group before being appointed
Financial Director of JCI's Platinum Division in 1994.

MARK WILLCOX BA LLB (UCT) Post Grad Dip Tax (UCT)

Mark Willcox is the CEO of Mvelaphanda Holdings Limited and is a director of
Transhex Diamonds Limited. For the past six years Mr Willcox has served in
various capacities in mining corporate finance in both North America and
Africa.

BHEKI ERIC NGUBANE MA cum laude, (Warwick) MSc (London)

Mr Ngubane holds the position of Executive Director: Human Resources of Anglo
Platinum. He has occupied various directorships and senior human resources
positions at Appletiser, Corobrik and SAB Beer Division.
