Immediate Release

                            ADL plc ("the Company")

                       Statement regarding Newsham House

The investigation by CSCI into the care and treatment of residents at Newsham
House Care Home, owned and operated by ADL plc, has concluded.

An agreement was reached with CSCI yesterday evening ensuring that Newsham
House will continue to operate normally. As part of this agreement an ADL
Director has become acting manager for three months.

Police are continuing with their enquiries at the care home, but no formal
charges have been made. The Company is confident that the care home has been
well-run and that there is no basis for any charge.

Peter Dewe-Matthews, Chairman of the Company said:

`We are pleased that an agreement with CSCI has been reached and that the care
home will continue to operate normally, therefore minimising disruption and
anxiety to the lives of our residents, their relatives and staff. We thank the
residents, their relatives and staff for their continuing support.'

The annual report and accounts for the year ended 31 March 2005 will be sent to
shareholders on 2 August 2005.

Notes to Editors

Newsham House is a 40 bed registered nursing home which provides for the needs
of older people who, through confusion, forgetfulness and general frailty are
unable to cope in their own home environment. The nursing home offers each
resident an individualised programme of care and a range of activities designed
to provide both physical and psychological stimulation.
