                Appointment of Finance Director
                               

The  Board  of Hartford Group plc ('Hartford') is  pleased  to
announce  the appointment of Doug Gardner as Finance Director.
He  joins the group from French Connection Group plc, where he
has been the Financial Controller of the Retail Division since
1997.

After   qualifying   as  a  Chartered  Accountant   at   Price
Waterhouse,  Mr Gardner (33) worked for The Gap  Inc.,  before
joining French Connection in 1993.

Commenting on the appointment Kevin Finch, Chief Executive  of
Hartford, said:

'We  are delighted to have filled this key position after  a
long  search.  Doug Gardner is ideally qualified for  the  job
and it is good to have him on board.'
