The shares in Merrill Lynch Defined Returns II plc were temporarily suspended
from listing due to a technical problem with the documentary formatting of the
annual accounts for 2003 delaying their publication. The annual accounts for
2003 will be published as soon as the technical problem is resolved and in any
event it is intended that those annual accounts will be published before 11 am
on the 30th April 2004 and the listing of the shares will be restored.
