United Energy PLC - Statement Re Agrigen

United Energy plc, the oil and gas company, which holds a 70% interest in
Agrigen Ltd, announces that following the Planning Inspectorate's refusal for
planning permission under Appeal and the sale of the Nunn Mills site, it has
placed Agrigen Ltd in Administrative Receivership.  This will allow the assets
of Agrigen to be acquired free of the liabilities that exist.

United Energy plc is the largest creditor of Agrigen Ltd, by virtue of its 
#0.94 million Debenture and, as noted in the press release of 3 February,
1999, it is likely that full provision will be made against United Energy's
investment in Agrigen in the results for the year ended 31 December 1998.  The
charge will be treated as an exceptional item.
