AppliedMicro to Demonstrate the World’s First 100G PAM4 Single Wavelength Solution at OFC 2016

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader
in computing and connectivity solutions, today announced that it
will demonstrate the world’s first 100G PAM4 single wavelength
solution for 100G and 400G Ethernet at the Optical Fiber
Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC). Attendees of OFC,
taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.
March 20 – 24, 2016 can view live demonstrations of the technology
in booth No. 3257.
“Demand for 100G Ethernet is being driven by cloud services and
hyperscale data centers,” said Omar Hassen, associate vice
president of connectivity business, AppliedMicro. “Existing
solutions will not be able to meet the power and cost points
required by today’s data centers. Our low power 16nm FINFET
solution enables 100G PAM4 single laser solutions in QSFP28 form
factors and serves as a key breakthrough for 400G PAM4 Ethernet.
This solution is built upon our proven industry-leading mixed
signal and DSP technology and will fuel the upgrade cycle to 100GE
and 400GE in data centers.”
Driven by the increasing need for networking bandwidth by
hyperscale data centers and cloud services, the market is seeking a
transition to 100GE. Single wavelength 100G PAM4 will enable the
lowest cost QSFP28 100GE transceivers, in addition to the smallest
form factor and lowest cost 400GE transceivers.
AppliedMicro’s 100G PAM4 single wavelength solution enhances
transceiver and module reliability by reducing the number of
optical components by 75 percent when compared to a CWDM4 solution.
AppliedMicro’s solution is implemented in 16nm CMOS FINFET
technology, and takes advantage of the company’s 56Gbaud ADC/DAC,
Backplane Serdes and programmable low power DSP.

rapid technology adoption-accelerating and compressing product life

center intra-connect world, Ovum has forecast a rapid transition
from 40G to 100G solutions. The quicker a single lambda 100G
solution can be brought to market, the broader its market window in
the emerging 100G data center intra-connect market. AppliedMicro’s
single laser PAM4 solution has the potential to capture a first
mover advantage in this compelling market opportunity.”
Tier one customers are actively working on 100G single laser
module solutions anchored on AppliedMicro’s silicon.
