Marketwired
Atheros Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHR), is showcasing its
global leadership with innovative wireless technologies at Mobile
World Congress, held Feb. 14-18, 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. As
consumers demand better connectivity in all types of devices,
Atheros continues to redefine the wireless experience with superior
performance, simplicity and features for today's mobile lifestyle.
It offers a broad portfolio of standalone and combination (both
monolithic and multi-chip) products that provide best-in-class
Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® and GPS technologies for a wide range of
cellular phones, tablets, media players, gaming devices, notebooks,
netbooks and other portable CE products.
In addition to showing a variety of commercially-available
products that feature its mobile connectivity solutions, Atheros
will demonstrate many emerging technologies and applications that
will appear in the next generation of connected devices. All
demonstrations will take place in Atheros' private suite, located
in Hall 1 of the Fira de Barcelona (stand 1G39).
Atheros' product and technology demonstrations include:
- ROCm® Mobile Wi-Fi solutions -- Atheros
is pushing the boundaries of wireless performance to enable
advanced media applications in even the smallest devices. It will
demonstrate the unique dual-band 802.11n capabilities of its Align®
1-stream mobile Wi-Fi solutions, which leverage 40 MHz
transmissions in the 5 GHz band to deliver up to 85 Mbps of
bandwidth for video streaming, fast sync-and-go, and Web
browsing.
- Wi-Fi / Bluetooth combinations -- Atheros
will showcase its new AR6233 system-in-package (SIP) for computing,
tablets and portable CE devices (such as handheld games and
eReaders). The combo solution provides manufacturers with greater
design flexibility, while ensuring enhanced wireless performance,
coexistence and battery life for consumers.
- Atheros Hy-Fi™ hybrid networks for the digital
home -- Marrying the benefits of Wi-Fi, powerline and Ethernet
technologies, Atheros Hy-Fi high-fidelity networks provide robust
wired broadband connectivity to bandwidth-hungry CE products, while
reserving wireless capacity to support mobile phones, tablets and
laptops in the home. By enhancing network efficiency and coverage
in the home, hybrid networks make Wi-Fi a more desirable
alternative to 3G and 4G connectivity within the home. Atheros will
also demonstrate an 11n-enabled smartphone controlling video
content between TV and storage devices connected over the Hy-Fi
network.
- Next-generation navigation performance --
Highlighting the superior capabilities of Atheros' next generation
GPS receivers and FYX™ location core, the company will show the
advantages of dual-mode GPS/GLONASS operation. By acquiring and
tracking signals from multiple satellite constellations, Atheros
can improve navigational accuracy and availability for smartphones,
tablets, notebooks and personal navigation devices - even in the
most demanding urban environments.
In addition to its technology demonstrations, Atheros is
introducing several groundbreaking products that raise the
standards for connectivity in mobile and computing devices,
including:
- AR6004 -- Among the first solutions to bring 2-stream,
dual-band 802.11n to mobile devices;
- AR6005 -- The world's smallest and most energy-efficient mobile
Wi-Fi solution; and
- AR9462 -- The industry's only monolithic combination of
2-stream 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0 for computing and tablet
platforms.
