Italian investment bank Mediobanca SpA (MB.MI) has increased its stake in biotechnology firm Crucell NV (CXRL.AE) to 5.51%, Dutch market regulator AFM said Friday.

The move takes Mediobanca's stake above the 5% regulatory threshold, requiring it to disclose the size of its stake.

Later Friday afternoon, Crucell will hold an extraordinary shareholders meeting in Amsterdam to discuss Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ) bid of EUR24.75 a share to take over the Dutch biotechnology company. J&J launched a bid for Crucell Wednesday, totaling EUR1.75 billion, for the stake it doesn't already own. The U.S. drug maker already holds about 17.9% of Crucell shares.

At 0936 GMT, Crucell shares were down 0.08% at EUR23.93.
