Dell Inc. (DELL) appointed Anand Sankaran as the new head of
Dell Services' infrastructure and cloud-computing business, a move
that comes as the computing giant looks to expand its reach into a
fast-growing area of technology.
Mr. Sankaran will report to Suresh Vaswani, president of Dell
Services, and will be based in Bangalore, India. He was formerly
senior vice president of Wipro Ltd.'s (WIT) global infrastructure
services business and previously held various management positions
after joining Wipro in 1989. Mr. Sankaran succeeds Kevin Jones, who
recently transitioned into the newly created chief customer and
sales officer role within Dell Services.
Last month, Dell's shareholders approved a $25 billion deal to
sell the company back to founder Michael Dell and a private-equity
partner, capping a bitter, yearlong buyout effort and putting the
company's success or failure squarely in Mr. Dell's hands. Mr. Dell
will lead an effort to refashion Dell from a seller of personal
computers and servers -- a business that faces stiff competition
and profit pressures -- to a broader technical adviser to
businesses that also provides services and software.
