Entrust IdentityGuard 9.2 now available, includes support for
digital certificates, mobile SMS soft tokens DALLAS, June 30
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hosted PKI solutions and strong
authentication platforms provide different, and proven, ways of
enabling strong authentication for governments, financial
institutions and enterprises. Now, Entrust, Inc., (NASDAQ:ENTU)
marries the two, giving security-conscious organizations the option
to have a complete strong authentication solution without the
perceived complexity of deploying an in-house PKI. "Digital
certificates, particularly for strong authentication, represent an
extremely high level of security and can now be deployed on one
platform from a single security vendor," said Entrust President and
CEO Bill Conner. "In an effort to make this level of security
accessible for all, Entrust IdentityGuard 9.2 is now designed to
seamlessly integrate with standard X.509 digital certificates -
even if they were purchased from a third-party vendor." Entrust's
investment in providing interoperability between Entrust
IdentityGuard 9.2 and the company's affordable hosted PKI product -
Entrust Managed Services PKI - further extends a versatile
authentication platform that already provides one of the widest
ranges of authenticators on the market today. Now, organizations,
regardless of size, can use digital certificates for strong
authentication, but also leverage Entrust IdentityGuard's full
range of authenticators. Compatible with any X.509 digital
certificate - whether from Entrust's managed digital certificate
service or a third party - organizations may use Entrust
IdentityGuard 9.2 as their central authentication platform to
smartly match security to the appropriate level of risk. This
scalability not only helps in strengthening enterprise security but
can also help to improve an organization's return on investment.
The digital certificates can be stored locally or on secure devices
like smart cards or USB tokens. Providing additional benefits from
the investment, the same digital certificates can be deployed to
secure mobile enterprise users. Compatible with the latest Apple
iPhone operating system, Entrust IdentityGuard customers can use
their existing X.509 digital certificates for strong remote access
authentication to a Web-based application - and all from a single
affordable authentication solution. The combination also helps
provide a high level of IP-based encryption for transmission of
sensitive company information. Employees can authenticate via
password, two-factor token or digital certificate. iPhone also
supports WPA2 Enterprise with 802.1X authentication - the standard
for Wi-Fi network protection. "It's really a unique opportunity to
be able to extend digital certificates, specifically for strong
authentication, to help secure all facets of an enterprise
environment," said Conner. "Making these two platforms
interoperable was logical and provides additional methods for
organization looking to improve their ROI." Also new to this
version, the platform's out-of-band authentication capabilities
have been enhanced with the inclusion of one-time-passcode (OTP)
SMS soft tokens. This useful feature enables organizations to send
a configurable number of OTPs to a mobile device for use during
authentication. Automatically replenished as needed, this dynamic
soft-token approach delivers the strength of out-of-band
authentication without the concern for constant network
availability, delivery timing or software deployment to a mobile
device. Entrust IdentityGuard enables organizations to layer
security - according to access requirements or the risk of a given
transaction - across diverse users and applications. The platform's
authentication options include strong username and password,
IP-geolocation, device, questions and answers, out-of-band one-time
passcode (delivered via voice, SMS or e-mail), grid cards, eGrid
cards and a range of one-time-passcode tokens. Entrust
IdentityGuard also provides multiple methods of supporting mutual
authentication, including picture and caption replay. About Entrust
