VERITAS Software With Expanded Reseller Agreement MOUNTAIN VIEW,
Calif. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
VERITAS Software Corporation and Sun Microsystems, Inc. today
announced an agreement to expand their decade-long, global
alliance. As a result, VERITAS will broaden its support for the
Solaris platform to include Sun's Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS)
for x86 systems, for both AMD Opteron- and Intel-based platforms.
The agreement also includes an expanded reseller relationship,
where customers can acquire VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 software
-- VERITAS' next-generation storage management solution -- through
their Sun representative. The expanded relationship demonstrates
Sun and VERITAS' ongoing commitment to help customers gain control
of storage complexity, improve utilization and help ensure
availability of business critical data, while leveraging the
compelling price and performance benefits of the Solaris OS on both
SPARC(R) and x86 platforms. The companies each plan to make
dedicated investments in engineering and testing focused on
development of the new product offerings, product interoperability
and timely delivery. In addition, Sun and VERITAS plan to establish
a variety of new joint marketing and sales initiatives designed to
highlight the benefits of the two companies' solutions and how they
deliver value to enterprise customers. "VERITAS and Sun are strong,
strategic partners with a long and successful history of delivering
value to our joint customers," said Gary Bloom, VERITAS chairman,
president and CEO. "VERITAS' decision to broaden its support of the
Sun platform to include Solaris x86 and Sun's decision to expand
its already significant commitment to VERITAS solutions represents
a win for customers and a win for each company." "The momentum
behind Solaris, on both x86 and SPARC systems, is indisputable,"
said Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun Microsystems, Inc. "As
the only systems vendor to have committed to delivering its
operating system on both enterprise and volume x86 systems, Sun
continues to grow the market for customers, partners and ISVs
seeking the security, stability and availability of the Solaris
Operating System. With the collective strength of our partnership
and our established track record among the Global 2000, VERITAS and
Sun are uniquely positioned to deliver customers a high-
performance, scalable infrastructure while simultaneously lowering
operating costs." Product Availability -- VERITAS Solutions and the
