Cingular Wireless Looks to Score With Sponsorship of the Mexican
National Soccer Team During 2005 U.S. Tour ATLANTA, Feb. 14
/PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless
carrier with over 49 million customers, will serve as the Official
Wireless Partner of the Mexican National Soccer Team and its
five-match "Coca- Cola Presents Real Mexican Soccer" tour
throughout the United States this year. "We're delighted at the
opportunity to help bring Mexican soccer to the United States,"
said Hendrik Schouten, Director of Hispanic Marketing at Cingular
Wireless. "Soccer continues to grow its audience in the United
States among all fan segments thanks to exhibition tours like this
one. Our sponsorship of the Mexican National Soccer Team provides
Cingular a way to reach the domestic Hispanic market, which is
widely regarded as having some of the most passionate soccer fans
in the world." The partnership will allow Cingular to customize its
Hispanic marketing efforts in key U.S. markets. Through its
sponsorship, Cingular gains advertising, marketing and promotional
rights to the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol crest, as well as
player rights for appearances and special events. Cingular also
receives on-field signage during all matches and branding for
in-stadium multimedia and print. Cingular reached deal with Soccer
United Marketing (SUM), the largest promoter of international
soccer matches in the United States including being the exclusive
U.S. promoter and marketing representative for the Mexican National
Team and its annual tour in the United States. Cingular plans to
activate its partnership at the local market level and nationally.
Each match will include a "Futbol Fiesta" fan zone interactive area
at the stadium showcasing Cingular products and services and
in-market promotions offering tickets and merchandise.
Additionally, Cingular customers will have access to exclusive
wireless soccer-themed content such as Mexican National Team player
images and downloadable ringtones. The Mexican National Soccer
Team, ranked 7th in the FIFA world rankings, kicked off its U.S.
tour on January 26 in San Diego with a 0-0 tie against 13th ranked
Sweden in front of 35,521 fans at Petco Park. The match marked the
first non-baseball sporting event played at Petco Park, home of the
San Diego Padres. All matches of the 2005 Mexican National Team
tour will be televised by Telemundo and available on radio via
Futbol de Primera. About Cingular Wireless Cingular Wireless is the
