Quinn Gets 43% of Fan Vote to Become First Notre Dame Player to Receive the Award ATLANTA, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- After leading Notre Dame to an impressive win over in-state rival Purdue with 440 yards passing and three touchdowns, junior quarterback Brady Quinn helped the Fighting Irish move back up in the polls. College football fans have rewarded him for his outstanding effort, today naming him the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week. This is Quinn's first nomination this year and second since the inception of the award, which is the only major college football honor determined exclusively by fan voting. Quinn is the only Notre Dame player to have been selected for the award and the fourth quarterback to claim the honor this year. Other winners this season include Georgia's D.J. Shockley, Texas' Vince Young, Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal and Minnesota's Laurence Maroney. Quinn, who garnered 43% of the votes, was one of four candidates for the Cingular/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week, who were selected by a panel of ABC Sports and ESPN college football analysts. The other finalists, in the order of their finish in the voting, were: University of Southern California running back LenDale White (20%), who had 19 carries and a career- high of 197 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans' win over Arizona State; University of Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor (20%), who had 36 completions and 431 yards passing in the Huskers' double-overtime win against Iowa State; and University of Michigan running back Michael Hart (17%), who rushed for 218 yards and one touchdown in the Wolverines' overtime win against Michigan State. Throughout the season, the nominees are announced Sunday morning at 9 a.m. EDT on ESPN.
