Cingular Wireless Donates More Than 200 Computers to New Orleans Public Schools Donation creates one-to-one student-to-computer ratio at new technology high school with room to grow NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Cingular Wireless announced that it has donated more than 200 computers to New Orleans Public Schools. Many of the computers have been put to use in the New Orleans New Technology High School where the Orleans Public School Board has committed to providing one computer for every student. "We have 100 students enrolled for the 2004-2005 school year," said Lilia McCollum, IT director for the OPSB. "Thanks to the donation from Cingular Wireless, we now have more than 200 computers ready for use, giving us room to grow while still maintaining our one-to-one student-to-computer goal." This year, New Orleans New Technology High School opened its doors for the first time as a small, innovative school that uses technology to reinvent the high school experience. Technology supports the curriculum and students are afforded a one-to-one student-to-computer ratio to work through project-based learning experiences. Cingular learned of the school board's need through recent news reports and began collecting available computers and monitors from across the state and refurbishing them to be donated for the 2004-2005 school year.
