BRUSSELS--U.S. Eaton Corp. (ETN) won EU approval Friday for its proposed $11.8 billion purchase of electrical products maker Cooper Industries PLC's (CBE).

The European Commission, the bloc's antitrust authority, said it has determined that customers will continue to have alternative suppliers of electrical products.

The bid combines the electrical equipment and component businesses of Cooper and Eaton, the commission said.
