Asian markets finished the trading session significantly higher with the Japanese Nikkei index and the Hong Kong Hang Seng gaining 1.92 percent and 2.08 percent, respectively. European markets are currently trading moderately higher with the Paris CAC leading the way, up 0.53 percent. Investors received a morsel of good news when the American Petroleum Institute's latest report showed gasoline production at an all-time high in April with continuing strong demand. The official US summer season begins in one week, with Americans facing the grim prospect of $2/gallon gasoline all summer. A Memorial Day spike seems inevitable. And according to the International Energy Agency, April's world demand for petroleum topped 80.9 million barrels a day. While there's no proof that the pill actually killed the man, the speculation was enough to send the stock down.
