GLCC Laurel Increases Antimony Trioxide Flame Retardant Prices
INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GLCC Laurel, LLC
today announced that the company will increase the price for all
grades of antimony trioxide by $0.25/lb in the Americas and by
$550/MT in Europe and the Asia Pacific region, where contracts
allow, for shipments after September 1, 2004. The price for other
antimony derivatives will also increase dependent upon antimony
content. The new pricing for antimony trioxide reflects recent
major increases in the London Metal Bulletin (LMB) value for
antimony metal and its impact on the cost of finished antimony
derivatives. Further tightening of raw material supply and,
therefore, additional price increases are anticipated through the
balance of the year. Additionally, the company announced that it
reserves the right to adjust prices weekly if expected increases in
the London Metal Bulletin price for antimony metal materialize. The
company's antimony trioxide, sold under the trade names TMS(R),
Timonox(R), Trutint(R), Microfine(R), FireShield(R),
Thermoguard(R), and UltraFine(R), is used as a synergist, along
with brominated flame retardants, in flame retardant polymer
formulations widely used in electrical and electronics
applications. Antimony trioxide is also an effective flame
retardant in high performance PVC applications. GLCC Laurel, LLC
develops, produces, and markets antimony-based flame retardants,
synergists, and catalysts. The company is a 50-50 joint venture
that combined the antimony oxide businesses of Great Lakes Chemical
Corporation and Occidental Chemical's Laurel Industries in April
2004. DATASOURCE: GLCC Laurel, LLC CONTACT: Wendy Chance of Great
