Sibanye Gold Ltd. (SGL.JO) said Wednesday that a South African union had appealed a decision approving its takeover of Lonmin PLC (LMI.LN).

The miner said that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union had filed an appeal with the Competition Appeal Court challenging the approval. Sibanye and Lonmin said that they intend to request an urgent hearing from the Competition Appeals Court in relation to AMCU's appeal.

On Nov. 21, the South African Competition Tribunal approved the acquisition of Lonmin by Sibanye.

The two companies said that they remain fully committed to the transaction.
