South Africa's Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union
is set to launch strikes at Sibanye Gold Ltd.'s (SGL.JO) platinum
operations, extending the scope of the industrial action that is
already hitting the company's gold mines.
The AMCU said Monday that the secondary strike action will
target Sibanye's platinum operations around Rustenburg from Jan.
22.
Sibanye shares at 1551 GMT were down 2.6% at 10.41 rand
($0.75).
The AMCU initiated strike action at Sibanye's gold operations in
November after rejecting a pay deal that the company had reached
with three other unions. In January, Sibanye blamed the strikes for
leaving its 2018 gold production below previous guidance, but
reported strong platinum production.
